Lovely house with beautiful gardens
Date of stay: July 2018
We had 2 weeks in the house with 3 generations of family. The house is very well equipped, with fans in every room and all windows with mosquito netting. The gardens are fabulous with lovely planting and banks of herbs which are alive with bees and butterflies. Lots of outside seating areas so there is always somewhere to sit in the shade when it is very hot. A 12 minute drive to the bakers and the town of Belves which has a weekly market and a night market. Recommended for a family holiday.

Wonderful character rural property with lovely swimming pool
Date of stay: July 2018
Beautiful old building with lots of character, excellent outside space with lots of different places to sit and eat; good size pool- very good facilities. Wonderful natural environment- owls, lots of butterflies and pretty garden.
A few kilometres to bakery and supermarket as expected in rural location; quite a few steps on ground floor could be challenging for older or disabled.

A great property that has everything you would want if staying with an extended family. A little bit remote (would have been nice to have been able to walk to a bolangerie) but to be fair this was made clear. If looking for this type of holiday again then I would have no hesitation returning.

Great house on superb location
Date of stay: July 2017
Lovely and spacious home in quiet area. All you need is available in, including perfect swimming pool. Several outside seatings for all wheather (but the porch is the best!). Kitchen well equipped, beds excellent. Surrounding very well suited for long walks. Highly recommended.

Great house with everything you could want
Date of stay: August 2016
Great house which stayed nice and cool in the hot weather due to the thick walls – its 250 years old. Rural location which is quiet. Spacious house and large garden with all the equipment you could want inside and outside. There were two coffee machines, decent hi-fi, fans in all bedrooms, even desk with monitor/speakers for laptop. Outside there are seats everywhere you could want. The big veranda is ideal for a morning coffee or evening glass of wine. The owners have thought of everything.

Fabulous house in a great location
Date of stay: August 2016
We have just come home from a fabulous 2 weeks at Lortal. The house is really lovely, spacious and has everything you could need. We have 2 daughters aged 7 and 10 and they said it was the best holiday ever!! The pool and garden area is great and there are loads of lovely seating areas for relaxing. We highly recommend the place.

Ideal holiday home!
Date of stay: August 2015
We had a wonderful stay at Lortal. It was the fourth or fifth time we have rented houses in that area and this was by far the best. The house itself is magnificent but the location is also perfect – secluded but within easy reach of so many places of interest. We really had a wonderful time and would happily come again.

After a disastrous first few days in the holiday home from hell, Andre and Lortal rescued our holiday. Perfectly set up for the family to relax, we loved the covered terrace, the space and the careful thought that had gone into setting this house up as very friendly home from home. Most fascinating of course was the automated lawnmower, had our 6 year old in a permanent state of wonder.

We were two family groups totaling seven and we found the house perfect and spacious for our needs. We thought the House was in a lovely location it was peaceful but not too far from main tourist attractions in the area. The House, grounds and the swimming pool were superb and it was really felt like home from home with the house fully equipped, rather than visiting a holiday home which often only provides basis equipment.

I have to say thank you to you for allowing us to stay at your amazing Lortal farmhouse. This was the highlight of our entire holiday and suited us perfectly in every way. We visited many of the local places including a lovely morning in Sarlat browsing the market, and we all enjoyed a morning canoeing down the Dordogne from Vitrac to Beynac. In between I became known as a regular (well for a week at least) at the Boulangerie in Belves, and it was very relaxing on many a hot afternoon to enjoy the wonderful pool and relax on the terrace. We even saw some deer running through the woodland at the bottom of the garden slope, which was very much a surprise. As I said, thank you, and I know we will be thinking about staying there again next year, if we can, and of course if you are not using Lortal yourself.
Mr Hewitt, 2013, 6 persons (UK)
I thought it was the best house we have stayed in over many years of holidaying in France. The house was spacious, well-furnished and fitted out and the beds were comfortable. Outside the pool and gardens were great and the setting was extremely peaceful.
Mr Robinson, 2013, 5 persons (UK)
We enjoyed a lovely two weeks at Lortal . The pool was a big hit with all the family, as was eating our meals on the terrace, in the mornings and evenings. We slept well and, on the rare occasions we were inside on an evening, found the living room very comfortable (and cool). We spent most of our time in and around the pool though, as the holiday progressed, we made an effort to have at least one excursion a day to one of the many really pretty towns and villages. We particularly liked visiting Bergerac, and Domme, which was especially nice during the evening market. We visited Lortal with 5 of us and there was a lot of room if we had been in a bigger group there would still have been plenty of room, in fact, it would be ideal for a group of 4 adults and 4 children: plenty for a good game of handball in the pool! If we are able to, we will definitely return!

Our return to Lortal this year was even more enjoyable than our very first visit last year. Andre’s very well appointed and comfortable home had been further enhanced by an impressive remodeling of the spacious kitchen and the addition of an extra outdoor dining area complete with superb views of this area of natural beauty and tranquility. And yet easily within striking distance of the “get away from it all gite” are lots of places of interest to visit. Combine all this with excellent local wines and food, and Lortal provides the ideal holiday destination and accommodation.

We had a really lovely week thank you! Your home is beautiful and in such a peaceful setting. We saw (and heard) lots of birds, including a woodpecker and barn owl, and the boys loved all the bugs! The beds were very comfortable, (something which we have found not to be the case in some other gites), and the bathrooms very modern with lots of hot water. We were able to relax and chill out completely which is what we needed after such a busy year this year. Thank you for sharing your home with us.
Mr Linsley, 2012, 7 persons (UK)
Lortal is a place to have a magical holiday. Lortal is a place of peace and tranquility where you can cast aside all your cares and problems of everyday life. Your house is a bit of paradise on earth. You are very lucky to have it.
Mrs Cookson, 2011, 8 persons (UK)
We enjoyed our stay in Lortal immensely – a real home from home ideally situated in stunning countryside with easy access to the main attractions of the Dordogne. The comfortable, well-equipped house is set amidst spacious grounds complete with swimming pool and plenty of seating areas with superb views. The owners have clearly lavished their time and attention on the property to very good effect.
Mr Bouchard, 2011, 3 persons (UK)
We enjoyed our stay immensely, thank you for allowing us to use your home.
Mr Bregazzi, 2011, 7 persons (UK)
Our stay in Lortal was excellent. The house was superb, weather perfect, pool great for relaxing, and the surrounding area beautiful. So we all had a great holiday.
Mr Birkett, 2010, 8 persons (UK)
My wife and I brought our children and grandchildren together in August 2010 for two weeks of Perigord rustic peace and calm at Lortal. The house is very well suited to a large family with several terraces, plenty of games, books and DVD’s and a large garden with a secure pool. We saw deer, squirrels and woodpeckers and picked plums and blackberries for my wife to prepare fruit pies. Despite all the local attractions of the Perigord Noire nearby it is very easy to spend a lazy summer day in Lortal. Thanks for a great holiday location.
Mr Sallows, 2010, 8 persons (UK)
We had a wonderful time at your house. We have visited the Perigord area many times and enjoy staying in the countryside, but like to be within easy reach of the towns. Lortal offered us both. It was one of the best houses we have stayed in, comfortably furnished and well looked after. It is a credit to you. We would definitely recommend it.
Mrs Cain, 2010, 5 persons (UK)
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday at Lortal. The farmhouse was spacious and full of character. It contained everything that could be needed, DVD’s, books, games, T.V and Wi-Fi right down to a sewing kit! A real home from home. The bathrooms were excellent and outside in the garden the terraces were very pretty. We enjoyed trips into Belves which was the nearest bastide town. It had lovely views and friendly cafes and restaurants. It was a peaceful holiday in a beautiful setting and in an excellent position to discover the many areas of the Dordogne.
Mr Minto, 2010, 8 persons (UK)
You have a fantastic holiday house – the pool is great, the gardens spacious and the house very comfortable. We had a very relaxing two weeks, we spent most of our time at the house but also got to explore St Cyprien, Belves, Sarlat, Bergerac and several small villages and tourist towns in between; we would love to visit your house again sometime in the future. Once again thanks for all your help.
Mr Johnson, 2008, 8 persons (UK)
Lortal was the most superb holiday gite we have used in the nearly 20 years we have been taking this type of holiday. In terms of location it is ideal, being near enough to the tourist sites such as Sarlat, Beynac, Roque-Gageac, etc, yet far enough away to be a tranquil retreat when this was required. The facilities and equipment level at the house were exceptional and left nothing to be desired at all, the brand new on-suite bathroom and the salt water pool finishing off a wonderful restoration of an outstanding property. The variety of balconies, seating and tables provided seclusion when needed but provided large enough areas for our whole party to get together when we desired. Our one week stay was enough to make us wish it was much longer and the address will stay in my sat-nav for our next stay at this beautiful holiday “home”.
Mrs Fleet, 2008, 6 persons (UK)
Everything about the house and the location was just what we had hoped for and more!! We had a great time and we have some very special memories!! It was in a wonderful location, peaceful and quite. The house was comfortable with everything you could ask for whilst on holiday. There was plenty of space and the pool and grounds were wonderful! We loved all the different terraces where you could easily find a quiet spot or follow the sun around the house! My favorite had to be the terrace off the ground floor bedroom where you could watch the deer!! We all had a really enjoyable holiday and having such a special house in such a stunning location was the icing on the cake.
Mrs Robinson, 2007, 8 persons (UK)
The holiday in Lortal was worth every penny and the more people know about it and the service you offer the better! It was like home from home but one hundred times better. In fact, I take that back, it should be a secret, so in the future we are sure of getting a place! Only joking! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Lortal and would recommend it to our friends.
Mrs Carson, 2007, 6 persons (UK)
Just wanted to say that we had a great holiday in Lortal last week, what a beautiful setting, we really enjoyed the house. We all thought the house and the area great, and would definitely come back. We would have preferred to be there for 2 weeks, as after 1 week we were just starting to settle in to the relaxed way of life!
Mr Clarke, 2007, 8 persons (UK)
We really enjoyed our week there despite the awful weather (raining Sunday to Thursday!) which prevented us from making the most of the outside facilities.
Mr Hannett, 2007, 8 persons (UK)
The holiday and property exceeded our expectations, thank you.
Mr Gardener, 2007, 8 persons (UK)
We have enjoyed our stay in your house. Thank you for the welcome pack – the wine was much appreciated. Sante !!
